For the first video, I used over 200 images to make a stop motion video. I had never made one before, so I wanted to try it. I took a photograph during my Photography 1 class that had 2 bears, and one had just cut off the others' head. I wanted to make a video that would explain why that happened, so I tried to think of a motivation, and came up with this idea. I took the animals and decided what they would do, then I took shots as i moved them all slightly to show what they were doing. I've seen a lot of stop motion videos and they have always been really interesting to me. I think that people's ideas are interesting, and stop motion is a fun alternative to making a regular video recording. I think that anyone could make a stop motion video for any context, it doesn't necessarily only relate to art and photography. You could make a statement about anything. In my second video, I originally took larger images of dvd covers, but ended up cropping them so the only thing the viewer could see was the actual front of the dvd. My original concept was brought on because I've noticed that a lot of dvd covers/posters are very similar, especially movies in the same genre. I took photographs of each of the dvd covers, then put them into Windows MovieMaker and used the fade in and out transition tools. I started out with some simpler covers and transitioned them to more complicated covers. I feel like movies are one of the first things I think about when I think about media, so that's why I chose this topic.
Part 2: For my first video, others thought it was humorous, as well as somewhat dark. They thought the video was ironic because of the serious subject matter and cute animals who played out the scene. They liked the overall idea, but one comment was made about adding text because they didn't know exactly what was going on. So I went in and added some slides to the movie that had their dialogue so that the video made a bit more sense. For a larger project, I would probably make more happen in the video. I would give more of a background, and maybe a more detailed sequence of occurrences. For my second video, I asked a few friends to critique what I had done. I showed them the video, and then explained my idea/goal. They thought it was an interesting concept but that it could have been put together better. One person suggested using more images, and another suggested zooming in on the faces, rather than using the whole dvd cover. If I was going to extend this project, I would use more images, and use different genres so they transitioned into one another.
